How An Idea Becomes A Recipe

I have ideas constantly about what I want to make for Triple Tree Bakes. This is my process of how I go from an idea on paper to an actual recipe!

Phase 1. The Idea!

When I get an idea for a recipe I either write it down or do a rough sketch of what i'm thinking on an actual piece of paper. I currently have a huge stack of papers just like the one pictured to the left. Sometimes, all it remains is an idea but if I'm inspired enough, it makes it to phase 2.

Phase 2. The Rough Recipe

I grab another piece of paper and I write a rough ingredient list. I have baked enough in my life to know what basic ingredients need to be in different recipes.

Most recipes require basic chemistry to work! Most often you need a solid, liquid, and a gas to produce the best recipes. Most often the solid is flour, oats, cornmeal, etc. The liquid, oil, milk, eggs, water, and so on. Finally the gas or leavening agent. This can be baking soda, baking powder, or yeast!

Phase 3. The Experiment

This phase is the most time consuming part of my entire process! I take my piece of paper and I test my recipe by baking it. Often times based on how the batter is, or how it looks I can tell what tweaking it needs just based on experience, but I have also messed stuff up bad many times and had to start over. I can experiment with a recipe several times until its the way I want it.

By the end when the recipe is ready to be written up the original recipe paper has writing all over it with things scratched out, re-written, and stains spilled all over it! Alot of heart and soul goes into this process!!!

Phase 3. Word Document

Finally, when my recipe is ready, it gets written out onto the drive in a word document! Here is where I have to think carefully about how to make it the most presentable. Is it easy to read? Are the directions easy to follow? Did I miss any ingredients or steps? Are my ingredients in the right order (they should go in order of use but I'm not perfect)? It's a lot! I re-read my recipes quite a few times before I post them to my website.

Phase 4. Posting

LAST, I post the recipe to my website using a recipe app. I use WIX as my website hosting service. The app for recipes is not perfect and is VERY BASIC. Since I am just starting, I am using it for now. I copy and paste my recipe information from the word document into the recipe app. This is time consuming and I know there has to be an easier way but, I want to make sure I always have a hard copy of my recipe so I always save it in word first. Then I add in my pictures, and publish the recipe to my website!

As you can see recipe writing is not a simple process and there is so much more to it, but I LOVE being creative and coming up with my own ideas. Hope you enjoyed this blog post!
