These are the absolute best monster cookies! They are so chewy, have the perfect ratio of flour to whole rolled oats, packed full of peanut butter, and an M&M or chocolate chip in every bite. Added bonus, the googly eyes to make them look like monsters of course. Once you try these monsters cookies you'll never need another recipe again.

Monster Cookies

I love a good monster cookie. The combination of peanut butter, chocolate, and oats, make these cookies a huge hit in my family. I am also very picky about monster cookies. The perfect monster cookie is chewy, never dry, has the right ratio of chocolate to oats, and is always a bit under baked.

Also, it's so important to make sure to have enough chocolate chips and M&M's in your monster cookies! I truly feel that when you bite into a monster cookie every bite must contain a bit of chocolate. There is nothing worse than a dry monster cookie without enough chocolate. Am I right?

To make these more festive for fall, I added candy eyes to each cookie. This is such a cute and easy way to make them look like monsters! I love how each cookies has its own personality, some of the eyes melt and each eye moves into its own position while baking making each one unique.

Dry Monster Cookies

My experience has been that peanut butter cookies have the potential to be very dry. If you think about it by nature peanut butter has very little moisture and a high fat content, thus properly balancing the ingredients in a monster cookie is essential.

I have found that the best peanut butter to bake with is a premixed creamy peanut butter like Jif. I regularly eat only organic peanut butter but it often separates or is harder to completely mix which makes its unpredictable when used for baking. Jif premixed peanut butter has the right ratio if oil to peanuts and just provides a more even bake. You'll also notice that I added milk to this recipe, the milk adds that moisture to these making them an overall perfect texture.

Monster Cookie Tips

This recipe makes 4 dozen cookies depending on the size of cookie scoop you use. These cookies do not need to be refrigerated before baking so if you make the dough ahead of time take it out of the refrigerator for 30 minutes before you bake it so the dough softens a bit. When placing the eyes on the dough balls, press them gently into the dough or they may disappear into the cookies while baking.

A few more things to note about getting these babies to bake perfectly, always cream your butter, peanut butter, and sugars together. Mix them until they are lighter in color and fluffy. This really helps with the cookies texture!

Every oven is different so the first batch may be a bit of an experiment for you. The recipe says 12 minutes of bake time and for my oven and the larger size of these cookies that is perfect. The perfectly baked monster cookie means the cookie is just starting to brown around the edges. If you are making them a bit smaller try baking for 10 minutes instead of 12! This will ensure they are not dry and that they remain chewy.
